Platteklip Gorge Hike
Table Mountain Summit
Platteklip Gorge is the most direct route to the summit of Table Mountain, and one of Cape Town’s most iconic hikes.
Starting near the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway, the trail climbs steadily through a dramatic natural corridor carved between towering cliffs. Stone steps guide the way upward as the city slowly falls away beneath you.
As we ascend, the views open up across Cape Town, Lion’s Head, Robben Island, Table Bay and the Atlantic coastline. Along the way we pause to catch our breath, enjoy the changing perspectives, and learn a little about the fynbos plants and natural history of the mountain.
It’s a straightforward but rewarding climb - a real sense of journey from the city to the summit.
Reaching the top of Table Mountain always feels like a small triumph. From here the landscape changes completely as you step onto the vast, otherworldly plateau that gives the mountain its famous name.
With Klipspring Hikes, the experience is about more than simply reaching the top. Along the way we slow down for our signature Bold Brew mountain coffee stop, take in the views, and experience the mountain the way locals do - on foot, with time to notice the details.
The hike usually finishes with a well-earned cable car ride down, offering one last spectacular view of Cape Town from above.
