Kasteelpoort Hike
Table Mountain Summit
A Hidden-Gem Route on Table Mountain
The Kasteelspoort hike on Table Mountain is one of Cape Town’s most scenic and rewarding routes - a favourite for hikers looking to escape the busier paths and experience the wilder side of the mountain.
The trail begins above Camps Bay, climbing steadily up the western slopes of Table Mountain beneath the dramatic cliffs of the Twelve Apostles. As we gain altitude, the views open wide across the Atlantic Ocean, Lion’s Head, Robben Island and the Atlantic coastline, making this one of the most spectacular approaches to the summit.
The route winds through beautiful fynbos vegetation and sculpted sandstone formations, with plenty of opportunities to pause, take in the scenery, and breathe in the fragrant mountain air.
We pause at Breakfast Rock, one of the most spectacular viewpoints on the mountain, for our signature Bold Brew mountain coffee stop, taking in sweeping views over the Atlantic Ocean and the Twelve Apostles.
Higher up we enter the striking Kasteelspoort ravine, a natural gateway through the cliffs that leads onto the top of Table Mountain. From here there's opportunity to visit the famous “Diving Board” rock - a dramatic viewpoint perched high above Camps Bay that has become one of the mountain’s most iconic photo spots.
We then step onto the vast plateau of Table Mountain National Park, and the adventure can continue in a few different ways depending on the day and the energy of the group:
- Across the “Back Table” to the Cable Car
A beautiful walk across the top of Table Mountain through hidden valleys, including the surreal Valley of the Red Gods and the quiet beauty of Echo Valley. We finish at the front edge of the mountain with spectacular views over Cape Town before descending with the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway.
- Tranquillity Cracks + Corridor Ravine
We visit the extraordinary Tranquillity Cracks, a maze of deep fissures in the sandstone plateau, before descending the scenic Corridor Ravine route.
- Woody Ravine Descent
For those who love a more hidden and atmospheric route, we descend through the cool forested slopes of Woody Ravine, a quieter and less-travelled path back towards the Atlantic side of the mountain.
