India Venster Hike
Table Mountain Summit
The India Venster route on Table Mountain is one of Cape Town’s most exciting hikes - a spectacular line that climbs the front face of the mountain between the famous cliffs of the Twelve Apostles and the City Bowl.
Starting near the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway, we begin on a well-worn path before the route quickly becomes more adventurous. The trail weaves its way through striking rock formations, steep steps and a series of fun rock scrambles that bring you right into the heart of the mountain.
This is where the hike really comes alive.
Short ladders, natural rock holds and narrow ledges add a sense of adventure, while your guide is there to show the way and help you move comfortably through the trickier sections. You don’t need technical climbing experience - just a good head for heights and a sense of adventure.
The reward is constant, jaw-dropping scenery. As we climb higher, the views stretch out across Cape Town, Lion’s Head, Camps Bay and the Atlantic Ocean, with the city slowly shrinking beneath us.
Along the way we pause to notice the fynbos that clings to the cliffs, breathe in the aromatic mountain plants, and often spot a few curious dassies sunning themselves on the rocks.
Reaching the summit always feels like a real achievement. The steep mountain face suddenly gives way to the wide, otherworldly plateau of Table Mountain National Park, where we slow down for a well-earned Bold Brew mountain coffee stop and take in the vast views from the top.
Most hikers finish the adventure with a cable car ride down, floating back to the city after one of the most memorable hikes in Cape Town.
