Pride on the Mountain – A Queer-Friendly Table Mountain Hike in Cape Town

Cape Town is often described as one of the most LGBTQI+-friendly cities in the world. But sometimes the best way to celebrate that freedom isn’t in a crowded bar or on a dance floor – it’s out in nature, breathing fresh air and walking a beautiful trail with good people.

Pride on the Mountain is our way of creating a relaxed queer-friendly outdoor experience in Cape Town, bringing together members of the LGBTQI+ community and allies for a social guided hike on Table Mountain.

It’s not a party.
It’s not a parade.

It’s simply a welcoming walk where people can connect, share stories and enjoy the mountain together.

For travellers searching for gay-friendly activities in Cape Town, or locals looking to meet like-minded people outdoors, these hikes offer a different kind of gathering – one that happens on the trail rather than in a bar.

Why we started Pride on the Mountain

Over the years many queer travellers have joined our hikes, and we realised that a lot of people are looking for LGBTQ-friendly tours and experiences in Cape Town that go beyond nightlife.  Cape Town has an amazing queer community, but there are fewer spaces where people can connect outdoors in nature. Table Mountain belongs to everyone, and spending time on the mountain together can be one of the simplest and most meaningful ways to build community.  So we created Pride on the Mountain.

What the hike is like

These are relaxed, social walks rather than intense hikes.

We choose scenic routes in Table Mountain National Park that allow plenty of time for conversation and soaking up the views over Cape Town, the ocean and the fynbos-covered slopes.

Along the way we pause for coffee and snacks if it’s a morning hike, or enjoy relaxed sundowner drinks if it’s an afternoon walk. We share stories and enjoy the small magic that happens when strangers meet on a trail and quickly become friends.

Some people come alone.
Some come with partners or friends.

By the end of the hike, new connections have been made and a few new friendships have begun.

A gay-friendly hiking experience in Cape Town

At Klipspring Hikes, inclusivity isn’t a marketing slogan – it’s simply part of how we see the world.

Klipspring Hikes is a queer-owned Cape Town hiking company, and we welcome travellers and locals from all backgrounds onto the mountain.

Klipspring Hikes is a queer-owned Cape Town hiking company, and we welcome travellers and locals from all backgrounds onto the mountain.

Our Pride hikes bring together:

  • LGBTQI+ locals
  • queer travellers visiting Cape Town
  • friends and allies who want to share the experience

You don’t need to be an experienced hiker.
You just need to enjoy being outside.

For visitors looking for gay-friendly things to do in Cape Town, a guided walk on Table Mountain is a beautiful way to experience the city beyond the usual tourist routes.

Why the mountain matters

There’s something about walking on Table Mountain that puts life into perspective. The big views, the fresh air, the smell of fynbos underfoot – it reminds you that the world is larger and more beautiful than whatever worries you carried up the trail.

And sharing that experience with a group of welcoming people makes it even better.
